Programma
In the charming medieval village of San Casciano, at the heart of the old Romagna-Tuscany, preparations for the Festa del Falò is in full swing.
The rival neighbourhoods of Borgo and Mercato will participate in a challenging competition of bonfires higher than 25 metres, at the presence of people in costumes and floats parades.
The origin of the Festival dates back to ancient times, most likely to pagan rituals and namely Celtic ones. It is believed that since the 12th century, bonfires have been lit along the banks of the Montone river, following frequent floods, to calm the river waters. Since 1700, a bonfire has been lit in each neighbourhood; people used to meet around it to eat, drink and dance until sunrise. Today, only two bonfires are lit to represent the two main neighbourhoods: Borgo and Mercato. Protagonists and rivals since ever, the two neighbourhoods will fight to the end once more, in the exciting competition of the highest bonfire.
