Analytical text

It was built on the foundation of the ancient church dedicated to San Biagio in San Gerolamo that was demolished by a heavy bombing in 1944.
The three works of art that the bombing didn't destroy are kept in the renewed church. From the artistic point of view, the previous construction was one of the most precious in Forlì. The triptych painted by Palmezzano and portraying The Virgin with the Saints is set on the second altar on the left side of the church; while the famous Immaculate Conception painted by Guido Reni around 1627 is set on the third altar on the right. The XV century Christening Fount in white marble is located on the steps that lead to the presbytery. The Christening Fount is very well decorated; a little frog is sculpted in its centre. Unfortunately the famous frescos by Melozzo da Forlì and Palmezzano have been destroyed during the devastating bombing.
Barbara Manfredi's memorial has been saved from the destruction of the church and after a long restore it was moved to S. Mercuriale Abbey.
