How to get there

By car: drive along Via Cervese towards the sea, direction Cervia, and follow the road indication for Pievequinta, 2.5 km far from Forlì.

Analytical text

S. Pietro and Paolo abbey rises on the border between the jurisdictions of Forlì and Ravenna. Its bell tower is in Ravenna style, the only one in the countryside area with a circular base. It was built up on square foundations (built before the year 1000) and there it opens its ancient door. On the bell tower there are some Roman tablets graved with Latin inscriptions. They had been used as building up material for the central columns of the double lancet windows, it is an example of the ancient recycling habit.
The church is detached from the bell tower.
The ancient structure is described in the perish file. It had only one nave with two side altars.
A lot of building up material from the previous constructions had been used to rise up the new ones. The stone supporting the main altar was an ancient Pagan altar then turned into a Christening fount and decorated again (On the front side there is a scene of the baptism of Christ while on the sides there are the portrays of the saints Peter and Paul). In the top part of the apses there are six marble bass-relief heads; they are located in the same place as in the previous construction (they portray the Apostles).
