Analytical text
The construction of the church began in 1614 by the monks of
San Francesco di Paola order. The actual façade was rebuilt
in 1829 on a project by Giuseppe Pani. The two statues in the
niches had been sculpted in the first half of the XIX century by
Graziani brothers from Faenza. The statues portray San Giacomo
Apostolo and San Francesco di Paola. The inside has only one nave
and three chapels per side. The four niches along the walls host
the stucco statues of the Evangelists sculpted by Giuseppe
Trentanove. In the second chapel from the right there are the group
of statues portraying San Antonio and San Francesco Saverio and the
oval by Felice Andrea Bondi painted with oil colours and depicting
the miracle of san Francesco di Paola. On the main altar there is
the XI century urn of San Ruffillo, first bishop of Forlimpopoli.
On the front part of the sarcophagus there are three bas-relievs
depicting: the blessing Christ, San Mercuriale and San Ruffillo;
the sculptures on the back portray the Virgin in throne with her
baby, S. Antonio with the pig and S. Giacomo the apostle with the
shells on his breast.
In the apses there is a painting by Francesco Alberi portraying the
Saints Giacomo the apostle, Francesco di Paola and Lucia.
In the second chapel on the left there is a big painting by
Francesco Caccianiga depicting S. Anna, S. Gioacchino and Mary.
In the last chapel on the left by the entrance, there is a
colourful statue of S. Lucia by Graziani.
