How to get there

The Dome is located in the inner of the town, where Piazza del Duomo and Piazza Ordelaffi get together. It is easy to rich both by car and by bus.

Description

The Dome rises on the ruins of an ancient abbey dated back to the beginning of the XII century. Between the end of the XV century and the beginning of the XVI century the Romanesque and Gothic structures had been replaced by Renaissance ones.
In 1636 the image of Madonna del Fuoco was set there. Madonna del Fuoco has been worshiped by Forlì citizens since 1428.
It was totally restored in 1841 by Giulio Zanbianchi. The façade is in laertio and it is characterized by a neoclassical monumental pronaos supported by six Corinthian columns.
The inside has a nave and two aisles divided by marble pilasters and covered by barrel vaults. Pompeo Randi decorated the aisles and the contra-Façades. In the right aisle there is the Holy Sacrament chapel; it has an octagonal base and it was built up in 1490 following a project by Pace di Maso del Bombace. The Christening Fount (1504) was sculpted by Givanni Ricci; it is decorated by bricks with alt-relieves depicting moments of Giovanni Battista's and S. Valeriano's lives.
In the left aisle there is the great Madonna del Fuoco's chapel (1619-36). There the XV century image of Madonna del Fuoco is worshiped by Forlì citizens. It is one of the most ancient xylography preserved. The vault is decorated with

Madonna del Fuoco feast takes place on 4th February. The streets of the historic centre are crowded by stands selling Madonnadel Fuoco sweet bread.
