Ponte di San donato (detto della signora)

Characteristic Humpback Bridge

Ponte di san Donato Modigliana The characteristic medieval humpback bridge stands on three arches; the central one is particularly wide and tall. It rose on the ruins of an ancient Roman bridge, which was knocked down by the 1640 flood. The Casalini family rebuilt the bridge during the second half of the XVIII century. The Casalini family owned Villa Colombaia, which the main road led to. The bridge was called Ponte della Signora because a charismatic woman was ruling the family in that period. The original name of the bridge is S. Donato since it rose by an ancient church belonging to the monks of Gamogna. According to a folk legend San Pier Damiani stopped several times by the bridge.
