Premilcuore stands on the right bank of the Rabbi river, between the mountain spurs of Alpe di San Benedetto and Falterona Mount.
Small mountain village, it was since 1100 a feudal possession of the Counts Guidi and followed the fate of this family until it passed over to the Florentine Republic. Today Premilcuore is an industrious village, visited by an increasing number of tourists that like nature and the quietness of ancient woods.
The walled village, which could be entered only through two gates (Porta di Sotto to the north, which was demolished in the past, and Porta Fiorentina, which still exists but has been renovated), still retains its medieval core, dominated by the ruins of the ancient fortress.
The town is a good starting point for forest walks and horse rides inside the National Park of the Casentino Forests, Mount Falterona and Campigna.
