Captain of artillery's castle

It is an impressive building in Porta Fiorentina which included the Captain's district, the armoury, the crossing gallery, three guard corps and the military jails. The castle's internal structure is star-shaped and is overlooked by the ledge, which was used by the sentries.

How to get there

It is in Terra del Sole's historical city centre; one can get ther from Forlì, driving along the SS 67 Tosco-Romagnola road for 9 km.

The castle included:
- the Captain's district, having greatly painted wooden ceilings (year 1587);
- the Armoury (deposit and workshop for light weapons: ancient guns, pikes, swords);
- the crossing gallery intersecting that of the Door, which let the garrison move from a bastion to the other;
- the daytime Guard Corps (under the Door);
- the night Guard Corps (in the spot above the Door);
- the waiting Guard Corps, characterised by a pavillon vault 14,60 mt. high, where the soldiers waited to relieve those who controlled the Door; on its side, there were the military jails.
The castle's internal structure is star-shaped and is overlooked by the ledge, held up by stone shelves and by tiny arches made of terracotta; this was used by the sentries on patrol.

At present, the Captain's castle is a beautiful private property. A club and two restaurants are to be found inside. The castle's rooms are suitable for ceremonies and conferences.
