Description
Magnificent building dating from the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries. Its entrance staircase, until 1860, was crossed by a state border, that between the Grand Duchy of Tuscany and the Papal States. In the first half of the sixteenth century was the home of the descendants of the famous leader of Uguccione della Faggiola, who took the name of Mortani from Mortano. The Palace shows an architectural shape elongated quadrilateral, whose sides are made of sandstone and opens into a large courtyard graced by loggias nineteenth century. To the right a small park with high walls shaped castle that, on the front, sloping down from the left bank of the Rio Pondo. The interior is a succession of rooms, halls, corridors, rooms, library, furnished with furniture from various periods of great artistic value. Adjacent to the palace, the little Church of St. Francis of Assisi (XVI century), rebuilt several times.
How to get there
S. Sofia is 40 km from Forlì, along the provincial road n. 4 Bidente (direction-Meldon S. Sofia). The Palace is located in Piazza Mortani, 500 m from the center of S. Sofia.
