A trip across the Forlì region with its strong historic appeal
is well worth the effort. Many finds have been made throughout the
territory which must have been inhabited for 800,000 years. Lovers
of live archeology should not miss, between Tredozio and Rocca San
Casciano, the ancient church of Santa Maria in Castello housing in
the parish church museum ceramic finds from the Bronze Age. Near
Galeata, in the hamlet of Saetta, the excavations have brought to
light the remains of what is believed to be the sumptuous late
Roman villa of the Gothic king Theodoric, while the village of
Pianetto hosts Mons. D. Mambrini Civic Museum containing
archaeological relics from the Bronze Age to the Middle Ages. Right
in this area have been unearthed the remains of the Roman town of
Mevaniola. Descending down the Bidente valley, do not forget to
visit the Archeological Civic Museum housed in the Fortress of
Forlimpopoli.
