Analytical text
Antonio Canova (1757-1822) is the greatest neoclassical Italian artist. In his works the ancient Greek statues come back to life according to the canons of Winckelmann: the noble simplicity and the quiet greatness. Housed inside the Civic Museumf of Forlì, the Ebe was commissioned by the the Countess Veronica Guarini and donated by her heirs to the town. As in many other works by the artist, sensual elegance matches with a perfet equilibrium of the whole composition, which is typical of the neoclassical culture. Sculpted from 1816 to 1817, compared to other copies preserved in different European Museums, this fourth version of Gods' maidservant owns different characteristics, as the golden decorations, that enhance the sense of life and and colour of the work.
