Ulisse. L'arte e il mito

The exhibition tells Ulisse, the protagonist of the Odyssey, "the strongest type of all ancient literature", as Flaubert will say, casts a long shadow on the western imagination of man. Art, together with literature, has expressed its myth at all times.

Since archaic art, the artists have not tried to illustrate the entire Odissea in a purely didactic form. They selected, interpreting it, what he spoke at his time. The Ulisse of Odissea is the hero of human experience, endurance, intelligence, speech, knowledge, survival and deception, self-awareness and the social values of one's time. The constant presence of this figure throughout the history of art, the fascination that it has never ceased to exert on the imagination of artists and poets, are a sign of his carrying our destiny with him.

From Homer to De Chirico and Picasso, from Dante to Rodin, the new exhibition in Forlì tells how art has narrated and reinterpreted the myth of Ulysses through the centuries: from the ancient age to the Middle Ages, from the Renaissance to the nineteenth century, up to throughout the twentieth century.
