A path through images dedicated to the great female photographers curated by Walter Guadagnini which will open at the San Domenico Museums in Forlì on 18 September, open until 30 January 2022.

Among the 314 photographs on display, we can point out the legendary images of Lee Miller in Hitler's bathtub, the amazing series of masks by Inge Morath, made with Saul Steinberg, the iconic faces of peasants during the Great Depression by Dorothea Lange, the surprising shoot by Eve Arnold on a fashion show in Harlem in the 1950s and the revolutionary shots by Annie Leibovitz for an epochal edition of the Pirelli Calendar.

A journey through images in the evolution of the world's photographic language, with specific attention to the "female gaze", starting from the 1930s, when, thanks to the success of the first illustrated magazines, photography became the main language of contemporary communication.

On display, therefore, it will be possible to follow this evolution through the great war reports and changes in social mores, post-war reconstruction and gender issues, the emergence of the consumer society and the observation of the role of women in countries. extra-western

The guiding idea was, in fact, to set up an unprecedented exhibition in Italy and beyond, dedicated to the work of the authors who, from the 1930s to the contemporary, have interpreted photography as a tool for investigation and reflection, with registers expressive sometimes poetic, in other cases more crude, on the great themes that have crossed society in the different time segments of the twentieth and early twenty-first centuries.
