Chiesa di San Filippo Neri - Forlì

The church has been recently restored. It is decorated with beautiful frescos and stuccos.

The construction of the church began in 1642 and 30 years after it closed to worship.
In 1780 it was restored and took its actual structure.
The geat brick façade has been recently restored. It is charcterised by gigantic pilasters and by tow Baroque large ears on the top.
The inside has a Latin-cross plant with two chaples per side. In the first chapel on the right there is a painting portraying S. Giovanni by Bartolomei Gennari, while the frescos depicting the life of the saint had been painted by Michele Colonna and Agostino Mitelli. In the chapel of the transept there is a picture of S. Giuseppe by Michael Wittmer.
The frescos on the vault and on the sides of the main chapel had been painted by Flaminio Minozzi and Giuseppe Marchetti during the XVIII century. On the top there is the Glory of S. Filippo Neri, on the left the Extasy and on the right the death of the saint. In the central part of the octagonal church there are four stucco statues sculpted by Luigi Acquisti.
The octagonal base is over-hanged by a vault painted with a light and shade tecnique in 1770 by Flaminio minozzi from Bologna. In the centre there is an excellent trompe l'oeil.
Near the main alatr, in the transept there is a statue in Carrara marble portraying Madonna di Loreto by Clemente Molli. The last chapel had been decorated with moments of the Passion of Jesus by Iacopo Lippi from Budrio.

How to get there

San Filippo Neri church rises along a side road of Corso Garibaldi that links Piazza Saffi to Piazza del Duomo. After parking in the nearby parking places it is reachable on foot.
You can park in Piazza Duomo, Via Caterina Sforza or Piazza Guido da Montefeltro.
