The Cathedral rises next to Palazzo Comunale. It was originally
projected as small oratory dedicated to St. Caterina. At the end of
the XVI century its structure was totally changed.
Description
The structure of the cathedral reminds Bramant's style. The
church has a nave and two side aisles enriched by relevant works of
art. A portray of Santa Caterina d'Alessandria by an unknown artist
is placed on the high altar. On the altar that forms the left limb
of the church there is a wooden crucified dated back to the end of
1500. The citizens of Bertinoro brings great respect to this
sculpture and in front of it they ask favours for pubblic and
private misfortunes. The cathedral leans its front on the side of
Palazzo Ordelaffi, in fact it was built when Palazzo Ordelaffi was
supposed to be pulled down. Under the cathedral, reachable even
from outside there is the crypt.
